Sustainability Initiatives for THE PLAYERS 2024
THE PLAYERS Championship is more committed to environmental sustainability than ever before in 2024. We are working with our partners, vendors, volunteers, and other important constituents to help reduce our environmental impacts. Fans can also play their part by bringing in an empty reusable water bottle, recycling onsite, and traveling to the tournament via carpool, rideshare, golf cart or bike. Below you will find additional information on THE PLAYERS sustainability focus.
ON-COURSE GREEN TEAM
Our ‘Green Team’ volunteer committee will be stationed at high traffic areas to help fans make the best decisions with their on-course waste.
REFILLABLE WATER STATIONS
Fans are encouraged to bring their own empty bottle that can be refilled at stations located around the course.
FOOD DONATION
With the help of our partner Feeding Northeast Florida, we collect leftover food in our hospitality areas each night and donate to local food shelters, which totaled over 15,000 pounds of food in 2023.
DATA COLLECTION
We actively measure our emissions, waste, water, and energy to continually manage and reduce our footprint on the environment.
SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORT
All fans are encouraged to carpool, rideshare, or ride a bike to THE PLAYERS, not only making your commute easier but also reducing carbon emissions.
RECYCLING SORTING
Behind the scenes we are taking strides to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill by hand sorting recycle bags from around the course to eliminate contamination in the recycling stream, which totaled over 42,000 pounds recycled in 2023.
Additional PLAYERS Championship Sustainability Efforts:
- Cups around the course have been transitioned to aluminum, including the iconic ‘Sawgrass Splash’ cup that is both reusable and recyclable.
- Tickets and pairings guides will all be published digitally as opposed to paper copies to reduce paper use and printing.
- Food waste that cannot be donated will be collected and sent to Compost Jax to be turned into compost.
- Increased recycling signage and improved bins on course.
- Plastic film from merchandise packaging will be collected in the Fan Shop and recycled.
- All cardboard onsite collected and kept dry to be recycled.
- All players and caddies will be given a reusable water bottle and refill stations will be stationed around the course and player areas.
